The map is approximately 8.5 inches long by 5 inches wide and 1.75 inches tall. Yes you can still see details like Bishops Peak and the hilla above Cal Poly, and other famous landmarks but you can’t see tress, roads, trails, or rivers — just the mountains, peaks, and valleys.
- Why Walnut? Is that a heavy wood?
We chose walnut as our first wood because it has such a classic, beautiful grain, is a relatively hard wood, sands down very smooth, and has a grey, smokey color to it. It’s also easy to find and sustainable.
- Does the stain make it smell or not feel like wood?
The finishes are rubbed in for deep penetration and a satin sheen. You can still feel the wood and the grain but the stain holds up to water and the oils in your skin.
- This is a gift. Can I have it engraved?

- How closely does this resemble San Luis Obispo?
We've been in SLO for almost 7 years and have hiked many of the landmarks in the map. I can say that I’m impressed by how they closely they resemble the real mountains and that I recognize them immediately.
- Can I hang it on a wall?
We have not included hardware or grooves to mount on a wall yet. But if we keep getting this request then we can certainly consider that. Other products we are looking to add in the future will be bigger and will be made for hanging on a wall.
